Establishment of a Halaqah (a study circle), Part (1)

HALAQAH PACKAGE: PART I

Why should you join or start a Halaqah?

In Islam training (Tarbiyah) and character-development is a life-long process. The great companions of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) always made sure to first practice whatever they knew. For example, a companion of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), named Abu Darda’ (May Allah be please with him), used to say, “I am not afraid that it will be said to me (on the Day of Judgment): ‘What have you learnt?’ But I am more afraid that it will be said to me: ‘what have you done with what you have learnt?!’” Therefore, the real purpose of learning Islam, through study circles, lectures of scholars, and books, is to energize our Imaan (faith), to increase in Taqwa (Consciousness of God), and to implement Islam in our own lives, our homes, and the society around us. This is the real challenge to every one of us!

We, the young brothers and sisters living in North America, have a great responsibility of reviving the comprehensive Islamic way of life, in spirit & action, and saving the Muslim youth from the net of all the social sicknesses, such as, drugs, smoking, drinking, peer pressure, pre-marital relationships, depression, suicides…etc. Therefore, Young Muslims Canada encourages youth to organize youth-oriented Halaqas (study circles and other practical activities), on regular basis, in different areas. The Halaqah should be the basic unit of our training and is supposed to be the springboard of:

(1) Collective learning and research (‘Ilm)

(2) Doing Da’wah (sharing Islam with non-Muslims and Muslims)

(3) Spiritual improvement

(4) Halal Socialization & Entertainment

(5) Our attachment with Quran

(6) Academic help

(7) Brotherhood/Sisterhood development

(8) Skill development

(9) Helping the society with our time, ideas and expertise

(10) Islamic Revival

We strongly encourage young brothers and sisters to take the initiative of collecting the Muslim youth in their localities, schools, universities, or communities, to build a network of brothers/sisters to help them come closer to Allah. An ideal and truly productive Halaqah should have a variety of activities and programming, for example, study circles, sports/entertainment, book reviews, sleepovers, academic tutoring, audio/visual or live sessions with scholars, brotherhood/sisterhood-building (Ukhuwwa) activities…..etc.

You do not have to be a scholar or have to have read volumes of books on Islam to get involved in a Halaqah, or to even start one. What you do need to have is willingness,

(a) To change yourself,

(b) To contribute something to Islam & the community using your skills, time, and ideas,

(c) To help other youth in their difficult times and bring them closer to Allah through personal friendship for the sake of Allah,

(d) To enhance your Islamic knowledge and implement it in every sphere of your life, and (e) To make Islam your priority!

Anyone can say, “The World is bad.” Not many can say, “Let us change this World!”

WHERE DO YOU STAND?

THE CHOICE IS YOURS.
